Coaching

Document Actions
Experienced instructors teach all ages and abilities.

Skaters below the Basic 7 level may only take private lessons if the student is enrolled in the Learn To Skate Program. Exceptions are made for adult skaters.

Before you choose a Figure Skating Coach

Figure skating is mastered through private lessons.  So, if your child is really interested in mastering figure skating, your first step is to select a private lesson coach.

Who your child takes private lessons from should not be decided in haste.  Your private lesson instructor will be more than just a teacher.  He or she will be your child's mentor, guide and role model.

First decide what kind of skater you wish your child to become.  Does your little one want to be a serious competitive skater, a semi-serious recreational skater, or just skate for fun?  Yes, it is possible to make the perfect match.

THE SERIOUS COMPETITIVE SKATER has made the decision to put many, many hours into practice on and off the ice, commit to several private lessons each week, and to give up "a normal life" to achieve the goals they desire.  Champions are not produced by talent alone.

THE SERIOUS RECREATIONAL SKATER will still master many wonderful skating skills, have opportunities to take part in recreational competitions, perform in shows and take skating tests.

THE SERIOUS JUST FOR FUN SKATER masters certain skills. There is nothing wrong with continuing in group lessons or supplementing group lessons with private lessons on a weekly or bi-weekly basis.

Considering Private Lessons?

All private lessons must be paid at the Front office on a 3-part lesson slip.  Private instructors set their own rates and schedules and should be contacted directly.

WHO CAN TAKE PRIVATE LESSONS?
Tots through adults, however, if a skater is below the Basic 7 level, private lessons may only be taken if the student is enrolled in the Learn to Skate Program. Exceptions can be made for adult skaters. See the Learn To Skate brochure.

HOW MANY LESSONS?
You may take as many lessons as your time and budget allows.  A typical lesson is usually 20 or 30 minutes long.
